Finally, the moment you have been waiting for. You will soon be able to reap the fruits of your labors.
By the way, I have to say, you have made it further than 95% of the people who try to build an online business. Everyone wants to make money but no one is willing to do the work. This is why so many websites fail. As you have found out, there is no easy ‘get rich quick’ way to do what you have done. Success is just around the corner for you.
Congratulations! You are about to become a Webmaster. How does it feel to be one of the 5% who are actually going to make it? Pretty exciting stuff.
By now you have decided on the best domain name for your content. You have chosen the hosting you plan to use. It’s time to buy your name. Go to Netfirms or GoDaddy and buy your domain name.
If you are using Netfirms for your hosting get that set up while you buy your domain name (If you are using their free option, they will set that up automatically, just by the name and you have free hosting). If you are using HostGator for your hosting, go buy your package from them.
It will take 24 to 72 hours for the domain name to be usable by all internet surfers. This is just the way it goes. Everyone has to wait. You have more work to do anyway so you won’t be twiddling your thumbs while you wait.
Yes, there is always more to do.
While you are waiting for your domain name to resolve, you can start working on these things. If you don’t get them all done in 72 hours, don’t worry, you will have time later.
• RSS feed
• Contact Form (optional) Many good free form scripts are available online or your HTML editor may have one. I will put one here soon but for now, you’re on your own.
• Take Surveys with NFO & Go for $10,000 (Not part of building your website but it’s fun to do and you do get paid.)
These are ongoing traffic building jobs. You can start reading about them and working on them now. Don’t join any linking programs until you are live. They have to check your website prior to approval. Just read this stuff for now.
When you are done with these, your domain name should be ready.
If you are using FrontPage, make sure your FrontPage extensions are enabled on your hosting service. Your host can help you with this.
If you are using any other HTML Editor, there should be instructions included on how to upload your files. This is usually done using FTP. Look in your help files or contact your hosting service. It is impossible for me to write instructions here for that since there are too many variables. This is the easy part, you can probably figure it out for yourself.
Once you have that done, open a browser and type in your domain name. If everything went OK, you should see your website. If you don’t see your website, it may be your domain name hasn’t resolved yet. Has it been 72 hours? If not, wait another day. If you already waited 72 hours, contact your hosting service for help. Hey, this is what you pay them for.
Once you are live, it’s time to join Google AdSense.
You will also want to join Alternate URL so you can still make money even if Google can’t serve ads.
While you are waiting for Google to approve you, go join affiliate programs.
Start adding affiliate links to your website. Text links are usually best. Try to incorporate as many links directly into your content as possible. You can either link content words to your affiliate programs or use tables to include links beside relevant content. I recommend doing both. See Example below:
When you are buying a new computer, there are many things to look for. Memory should be one of your big concerns. Without enough memory your computer will run too slow. (Link the first “Memory” either to your affiliate link or your web page about memory. Link the second “memory” to the other.)
